DC-coupled hybrids send PV into a battery-ready inverter that can charge storage before converting to AC — efficient for new builds. AC-coupled systems add a battery inverter/charger beside an existing grid-tied solar inverter — common for retrofits. Neither is universally “best”; match the topology to whether you already own string inverters.
